Finger Knitting: My First Scarf

I’ve been in the process of changing jobs and also getting ready to move.. so not a lot of focus on crafting and more on putting things in boxes and selecting books to donate(it’s really hard!). I have a few projects that are slowly being worked on, I need a commute hobby so I gave finger knitting a try. Here’s my first scarf. Now I’ll be that strange person knitting on the bus…

Hair Conditioner Recipe

Here we go, I’ve been reading up on this for a while a few things to get familiar with before you start should be cationic quaternary compound’s and PH.

I feel like I am ready to try making a batch of hair conditioner. I researched ingredients for a while then built some basic recipes around what I have on hand. Sketched out several recipes for General Use(Argan & Nettle), Moisturizing (Coconut & Avocado) , Dandruff(Tea Tree, Avocado & Nettle), Winter Hair (Carrot & Oat), Invigorating(Jojoba, Rosemary & Peppermint).

My first attempt is as follows, this was my ‘general use’ idea.

90.5% Distilled Water

3% BTMS-50

1% Panthenol

3% Nettle Extract

1% Argan Oil

1% Fragrance (I used green apple)

1% Optiphen

It was a little on the thin side, and very appley! If I were remaking this recipe right now I would make the following adjustments 0.5% fragrance and 4% BTMS-50.

Rose Gold Lip Balm and Flowers

The first flowers from my chamomile cut to be dried, my tulips are beginning to bloom and it’s nice out today.

Somehow I have run out of lip balm? Is that possible? I guess the washing machine has gotten them all. Time to test my rose gold mica.

Rose Gold Lip Balm

1/2 tablespoon Candelilla Wax

1/2  tablespoon Coconut Oil

1/2 tablespoon Mango Butter

5 drops Jojoba Oil

3 drops Vitamin E

1/8 teaspoon Rose Gold Lip Safe Mica

1 drop pink grapefruit essential oil

Instruction:

Add coconut oil, candelilla wax and mango butter to a measuring cup, microwave in 20 second bursts until completely liquid. Add remaining ingredients and stir really well.

Pour into lip balm pot, cool completely before putting lid on.

Adding Lemon Balm, Lavender and Chamomile to steeping water, I am still sad my mint did not sprout with these others and I am using dried stuff. Here’s what I’ve been making as iced tea’s this week as I’ve been trimming up my garden.

Lavender Mint Tea

1 teaspoon lavender flowers

I’ve also remade a few things I ran out of so I have a fresh batch of Lavender & Cedar Shaving Cream, Lavender Lip Balm and a Lavender & Tea Tree Foot Balm. In a few more days I will be able to start picking and drying wild lavender on my walks, I can hardly wait.

.25 oz Cocoa Butter

I took the second half of this lip balm recipe and I added 15 drops of Tea Tree and 10 drops of peppermint and poured the remainder into a container to cool. Now I also have a foot balm.
